Initiating and implementing change is often a very disruptive and challenging undertaking, but it doesn’t necessarily have to result in inevitable failure. There are many fundamental interdependencies that are often overlooked, however if the complex aspects are evaluated and triggered within a timely manner then the journey and outcome can reap significant rewards.

The below *list reflects some of the key aspects to consider and evaluate across any planned change;
- Scoping & defining the desired outcomes (change) before commencing will help avoid creep, delays and increased costs.
- Unless driven by innovation, change is generally triggered by a compelling event and therefore try to avoid just reinventing the wheel or simply replacing one broken process with another poorly designed replica (You’ll be surprised how often that happens).
- Create a plan and try to stick to it.
- Ensure that leadership are both agreed and supportive of planned change.
- Define a clear communication plan & ensure that communications are clear & regular and this should help manage everyone’s expectations from End Users to C-Level.
- Ensure that interdependencies are clearly understood, defined and tested.
- People-Process-Technology changes must be undertaken with both the hard & soft impact and timely and considered actions taken to validate change ahead of any deployment.
- Test, test & re-test.
Building in contingency will avoid headaches and heartache and is the corner stone of sanity across implementing change. Challenges aside, remain optimistic and focussed and lead by example and you’ll be surprised how often this simple approach can influence and provide a positive outcome.
